Intel Corp.'s new power-efficient chips could save businesses and consumers worldwide as much as $1 billion a year in energy costs, the chip giant's chief executive officer said Tuesday.
CEO Paul Otellini said that would be possible if about 100 million PCs in the world were replaced by machines that run on Intel's new chips, which will be released in the second half of next year. A new report from the research firm Gartner Group estimates there should be more than 200 million new PCs shipped worldwide by the end of this year.
